Re: The Cartesian Coordinate System and the Distance Formula

For one thing you could have tried each answer in your calculator... Or you could have reduced

Re: The Cartesian Coordinate System and the Distance Formula

OOOH, so all I have to do to solve those answers would be to enter
4 * sqrt13?

Then D would be the answer. Omg, I didn't know it was that simple haha

Re: The Cartesian Coordinate System and the Distance Formula

That is just one way to do it but it is better than no answer at all.

You could reduce

Re: The Cartesian Coordinate System and the Distance Formula

What is the radius of a circle with the given center C that passes through the given point Z?

16. C (0, 0); Z (-8, 0)

A4
BSQRT(61)
C8
D5
E SQRT(173)
F SQRT(180)

17. C (-4, -5); Z (-10, -5)

A4
BSQRT(202)
CSQRT(290)
DSQRT(61)
E SQRT(173)
F 6

18. C (-5, 8); Z (-5, 4)

A4
BSQRT(61)
CSQRT(290)
DSQRT(202)
E SQRT(173)
F 6

19. C (-5, 9); Z (6, 0)

A4
BSQRT(61)
CSQRT(290)
DSQRT(202)
E SQRT(173)
F SQRT(180)

20. C (-7, 6); Z (-13, -6)

A4
BSQRT(202)
CSQRT(290)
DSQRT(61)
E SQRT(173)
F SQRT(180)

I need help with these now. Okay so, the formula for this would be: x^2 + y^2 = r^2? x is the x coordinate, y is y coordinate and r is the radius

Re: The Cartesian Coordinate System and the Distance Formula

For 16, what is the distance between those two points?

Re: The Cartesian Coordinate System and the Distance Formula

That is correct, so that is the radius.

Re: The Cartesian Coordinate System and the Distance Formula

Thank you big_smile I'll go ahead and solve these, and come back when I'm done so you could check them

Re: The Cartesian Coordinate System and the Distance Formula

Okay, I will post the answers so you will have them.

15. (1, 2) and (5, 2) (E)

E 4

17. C (-4, -5); Z (-10, -5)

F 6

18. C (-5, 8); Z (-5, 4)

A 4

19. C (-5, 9); Z (6, 0)

D SQRT (202)

20. C (-7, 6); Z (-13, -6)

F SQRT (180)

Re: The Cartesian Coordinate System and the Distance Formula

Nevermind, read wrong haha. Thank you!

I might have questions on my next lesson, do I post here or make a new topic?
