What is the area in square inches of the pentagon shown?
Could someone please tell me the answer? Solution preferred, but optional.
Thanks in advance.

Some pythagorean theorem and heron's formula would do the trick. Give me some time to revise my latex...

Hi;
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.

Hi mathster;
I've added lines CD and DF to the image, which I hope will help give you a better idea of how to go about tackling this.
DCF is a right-angled triangle - as is its congruent (equal sides) neighbour DEF - and so the area formula for right-angled triangles applies to those two triangles. Then add the area of rectangle ABCD to give you the area of pentagon ABFED.
