Hi;
See the following algebraic expression:
1/3(x + y + z)
It can be also written as: x/3 + y/3 + z/3
Or: (x + y + z)/3
Is this a monomial, binomial, trinomial or none of these?

Since it has 3 terms I would say trinomial.
In mathematics, you don't understand things. You just get used to them.
If it ain't broke, fix it until it is.
Always satisfy the Prime Directive of getting the right answer above all else.

If you distribute 1/3, the expression becomes x/3 + y/3 + z/3.
As you can see, three terms are formed.
This is a trinomial.

Hi;
See this algebraic expression:
4x +9x
It is a binomial.
When it is written 13x, it is a monomial.
Then what type of expression is this?

If there is a single variable the powers must be different.

Hi Amartyanil;
Supposing I said it is x + 3x + 4x + 5x, does it now have 4 terms? You should simplify first to 13x, where it is obviously a monomial.

Hi;
Do we count only the unlike terms and state them only as terms?

Basically + and - make more terms:
is still a monomial.
