Recurrence in division

Is there any way to find out the length of recurrence in a division without actually dividing?
Like: 1/3= zero point 3 recurring -->( how to calculate that there's one digit recurring)

Thanks for answering and efforts.but I meant that if we don't know how much is the length of recurring then we are not able to directly measure amount of nines  and know how many digits recurring. Something you've said is totally true but it's just about the time we know about recurrence.
