I Really need help with this Question:Its from a Book named HC Verma

A carrom Board(4 ft x 4 ft) has the queen at the centre. The Queen , hit by the striker moves to the front edge, rebounds and goes in the hole behind the striking line.Find   (A) the magnitude of displacement  of the queen from the centre to the front edge , (B)from the front ede to the hole.

Naresh,
the distance from the center to an edge would be half of that of the diagonal. But The diagonal of a square is The square root of 2 multiplied by the side.
I guess your question isn't too clear sad

But then, the question never says which part of the edge. sad

That is what you have to find out where does the displacement not distance

It should hit in such a way that it should rebound with same angle of reflection and go into the hole right.

It's not asking for displacement though. It's asking for magnitude of displacement, which is exactly the same as distance. Does that make things easier?

Why did the vector cross the road?
It wanted to be normal.
