Suppose I(x) represents the income of an individual in year x before taxes and T(x) represents the individual's tax bill in year x. Determine a function N that represents the individual's net income in year x.
I say the function N needed is either N(x) = I(x) + T(x) or
N(x) = I(x) • T(x).
You say?

Hmmm! It seems taxes work differently where you are. In the UK they subtract the tax amount from the money earned before tax.

Understood. Is my work correct?

Well no. Where is the minus in either answer?

N(x) = I(x) - T(x)
This is the correct function, right?

That's the one!

Very good. Can you tell me why that's the correct function?

How do we ever know a function is the right one? Two things are needed: (1) If we substitute numbers for letters, do we get the right results.
If I = 2000 and T = 200 then net income = 2000 - 200 = 1800.
(2) Are there any contradictions or anomalies resulting from the use of this function.
If, for example, the government, in an effort to gain the popular vote, decided to let off from all tax anyone who had voted for them, then a formula of this kind might not work for those cases. I'm assuming the supporter gets the tax bill but separately when he votes, gets a "don't have to pay tax" note. Oh, come to think of it that's not so crazy. The Prime Minister's wife lived here for many years, whilst paying no tax due to a strange Non Dom rule. If your home is in another country, even if you actually live here, you can say you pay tax there instead, even though you're using our roads, police, health service etc.

The best, fastest and simplest tactic to gain 'huge' amount of money from the ordinary people/multitudes of a country is ... (fill the gap)
Added:
Hint: It doesn't work with me in the way I live.

Every living thing has no choice but to execute its pre-programmed instructions embedded in it (known as instincts).
But only a human may have the freedom and ability to oppose his natural robotic nature.
But, by opposing it, such a human becomes no more of this world.

Oh, I see.

Very good. Can you tell me why that's the correct function?
Do the logic of the Q
I(x) is before taxes
T(x) is after taxes
What changes between I(x) and T(x)?
What math operation do they do to take out the taxes?
Use the fcn that uses that operation

To take out taxes subtraction is needed.
