Hello, I hope you all are doing well. My user is Numbersarehard, I'm a grade 12 math student who is currently in the trig unit. I find that the unit circle is very confusing and that the tan graph shouldn't exist (it is just too hard imo lol). I hope to find other people who are also in an advanced math such as I who may or may not be struggling with the same thing. Furthermore, I hope to meet some like-minded individuals or even some new math friends I am over the age of 18 however, just wanted to make that known just in case. Happy mathing everyone

Hi,
Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the math site. Here's a big tip for you: NEVER reveal your age in an open forum.
Focus on the journey for there will be those who would love to see you fall.

Just a small precaution against internet nasties. A while back an attempt was made by someone to groom a young member.
She had reveiled too much about herself on social media and the guy knew her age, school, and that her father was away abroad. He tried to be-friend her here and suggested she engage in private facebook chat. We were able to warn her and delete the guy's membership.

In my country, these scams happen a lot because the people here lack enough awareness.

Ok
I wanted to ask a question: Since this site uses JS and PHP, why am I unable to write any HTML or PHP or JS code like
for ($j=0, $j<10, ++$j)
{
echo $j;
}
or <a href="somewebsite">Text</a>
?

Although I'm an administrator I cannot use code like that either. Only MIF himself would be able to fiddle with the fundamental code underlying the forum.
Some BBCode commands are available, chiefly to enhance text. eg square brackets u for underlining, b for bold, huge for large text, color for colours. Not all of the commands in BBCode work here I'm afraid. The forum moved to a new server several years ago and some commands which had worked now don't.
You can put in a link with url as I did in my previous post. I think the format allows a 'title' for the link but I deliberately don't use it as I want members to be able to see where they're going when they click it.

For smart maths formating you can use LaTex http://www.mathisfunforum.com/viewtopic.php?id=4397
This thread was made years ago, long before I joined. You'll see the effect of the server change when you notice some code that clearly worked at the time, now doesn't.

Ok
I recently joined and before this, I used another forum at Braingle. Thre the owner used HTML tags for enhancing the text or message like <a> for link, <b> for bold etc etc and as I knew programming, I wrote those tags directly. That site was also based on PHP and JS.
I found that the version of PHP you are using is quite old. I tried to get the code of FluxBB on Github but it didnt work in my laptop. It said, "These array types are not valid in this version of PHP.

Yes it is!!! The forum is limping a bit. You could try sending MIF a message.

The site was set up by Rod Pearce in 2005. He uses the name MathsIsfun on the forum. You can try emailing him at
maths@mathsisfun.com
With the original server, uploads of avatars was possible. When the switch came that facility was lost (sob sob) but existing avatars still function.
No one has found a way round it yet.

Maybe the program has some errors with multipart formdata. That's what I use to upload files specially images to my server.
I'll try mailing him asking about the source code or any bug.
