how do matrixs work

like a 3 by 3 column or even 2 by 2, or just it in general
i read somewhere about how to solve 2 by 2 columns
like
[ a  b ]
           } = e
[ c  d ]
and so ad/cb=e  or something like that but for some numbers it didn't always work
and is there one way to solve all of the matrixes or do you have to use different methods for each

lets just call it,  i, and get it over with

Re: how do matrixs work

I took matrices with a professor that was so bad, half the class didn't even show up after a while.
The professor was fired the next year.  I know very little about them because reading about them is harder than learning from someone, at least for me.  And lots of repetition is needed to remember what direction you go through the squares or numbers in the grid.  You can solve systems of linear equations.
So if you have a 4 x 4 matrix, then you may have variables x,y,z, and w, and if the 4 equations are different enough then together you can figure out where they intersect and get the answer.
