Divide 150 into 3 parts such that the second number is five sixths the first and the third number is four -fifths the second.

Well if you put the three numbers into a ratio:
Call the 1st number: 1
Call the 2nd number: 5/6 (as it's 5/6 of the first number, 1)
Call the 3rd number: 4/5 x 5/6 = 2/3 (as it's 4/5 of the second number, 5/6)
Then add up all the ratios, which gives 2.5
If you then divide 150 by 2.5 you get 60, which tells you that a proportion of '1' is worth 60. Therefore:
1st number: 1 x 60 = 60
2nd number: 5/6 x 60 = 50
3rd number: 2/3 x 60 = 40
