Spain win! They will now face Russia in the Semi-Final ...
Fabregas is a hero! Especially the goalkeeper ... wonderful saves he made. Wasn't Buffon's day, I suppose.

And Spain have won 4-2 on penalties!
I think Spain deserved to win, after all the chances they made in open play. The Italians played far too defensively.

Italy played way too much like Greece in Euro '04. -_-

After two days rest, its back to football: Germany v Turkey in Basel in the first of the semifinals.
Offline
22′: Shock shock horror horror, it is Turkey who take the lead! Germany 0-1 Turkey.
Offline
26′: Thats more like it. Bastian Schweinsteiger turns Lukas Podolskis cross past Rüştü Reçber, and its Germany 1-1 Turkey.
The Turkey goalscorer was Uğur Boral, by the way.
Offline
Half time: One goal each. Turkey are by no means overawed by the occasion theyre playing as well as the Germans.
Offline
79′: The leading scorer at the 2006 World Cup, Miroslav Klose, gives Germany the lead. Germany 2-1 Turkey.
Offline
86′: Germany 2-2 Turkey?! Someone pinch me! I must be dreaming.
Semih Şentürk was the scorer of Turkeys second goal now he has 3 goals in the tournament as well.

90′: No, Im awake. Germany 3-2 Turkey! Philipp Lahm in the last minute for Germany!
Offline
Full time: Germany 3-2 Turkey. This time it is Turkeys opponents who provide the last-minute drama.

The next semifinal, Russia v Spain in Basel at Vienna.
Offline
34′: Still 0-0. Topscorer David Villa wont be adding to his account in this match. He picks up an injury and is replaced by Cesc Fàbregas!
Offline
Half time: Im shattered. Ive been looking forward to seeing Villa score in this match. Roman Pavlyuchenko can draw level with him if he scores, but Spain have been dominating the match. At least that was what they were doing in the rain-drenched first half which was, all in all, pretty disappointing, with chances being few and far between.

50′: A goal at last. Xavi Hernández opens the scoring for Spain: Russia 0-1 Spain.
Offline
73′: And its now Russia 0-2 Spain thanks to substitute Daniel Güizas goal.
Offline
82′: Russia 0-3 Spain David Silva.
Offline
Full time: Well, it was a much better second half if only because of those three goals. And Spain are the the final of a major tournament for only the third time in their history! Theyve won the championship once (1964) and been runners-up once (1984) and theyve never reached the final of any World Cup tournament before. What a big moment this is for Spain!

Hoping Spain, thinking it will be Germany, though.

Spain have played marginally better football than Germany in the tournament. But the Germans have more experienced players in their squad. Should be a good contest this Sunday.
