Help with Abstract

Let σ be the m-cycle (1 2 …m).  Show that σi is also an m-cycle if and only if i is relatively prime to m.

I need some directions please. smile

Re: Help with Abstract

The best way to figure out these problems it pick an arbitrary non-prime (say 6) cycle and see what happens when you multiply different things.

If you aren't sure about a problem and can come up with concrete examples, always do so.

"In the real world, this would be a problem.  But in mathematics, we can just define a place where this problem doesn't exist.  So we'll go ahead and do that now..."
