to produce the smiley
but this smiley isnt in the list of smilies for this forum
is there a better list somewhere?
or could maybe somebody create a better list?
thx
I started on the forum as an ordinary member and I helped a few folk with questions. Then I was badly trolled because of an answer I gave. I spent the next few days composing angry and sarcastic responses (in my head) . In the end I decided to just say nothing....
youre so kind and patient
thank you

To indent subsequent lines of a paragraph, use the TeX command \hangindent . (While the default behaviour is to apply the hanging indent after the first line, this may be changed with the \hangafter command.) An example follows. \hangindent=0.7cm This paragraph has an extra indentation at the left.
This link helps:
thanks!

Emma needs to order liquid fertilizer for her landscaping company. She plans to keep the fertilizer in a large cylindrical storage tank, but isn’t sure how much it will hold. The tank is 10 feet tall and the circular base has a radius of 5 feet. What is the volume of her storage tank?

Devon owns a house cleaning company and has to give price quotes to potential customers. He figures out his price by assuming a $25 base charge and then adding $8 for each bathroom and $4 for each other room. If he uses P to represent the price, B for bathroom, and R for other rooms, create a formula to represent this situation.

Company X sold 1,500 units of its product for $9 each and 750 units for $6 each. If the company's cost of producing each unit of the product was $7, what was the company's profit or loss on the sale of 2,250 units?

There is always a way to solve problems without a calculator.
i wish, but no
thats why we need 'numerical analysis'
it has ways to solve things numerically/approximately
article - ask a mathematician
specific example - stack overflow
sry
This together = $18,000.
Also 2250 units at $7 each = $15, 750.
The company's profit or loss is the confusing part for me.
profit is income less outgo
profit is revenue minus costs
so subtract
Subtract what? It cannot be 18,000 - 15,750, right?
why not?
the 18000 is revenue or income
the 15750 is cost or outgo
profit is what is left after subtracting cost/outgo from revenue/income
so 18000 - 15750 is the right subtraction
Is there an algebraic way to simplify this stuff?
don't think so
if wolfram alpha cant come up with an exact ans then you and me probably cant either
Again, just a question. No need to belittle anyone for asking questions that maybe others are hesitant to ask.
i was just admitting that i'm not that good at math
being honest abiout my limitations
i didn't mean to 'belittle' myself
trying to stay humble
or was it the smily that offended you?
either way, sry
1. This is easier said than done under time pressure.
didnt know you are taking a timed test
sry
3. You appear to be a math person. You know, we all make errors or ask "dumb" questions except you. I didn't know I was interacting with God.
sry
i know i never said i was god
when/where did i say i never made mistakes?
(cuz i make loads of them!)
4. Sincerely, if you are going to respond to all my questions with a chip on your shoulder, then kindly ignore my math questions.
sry
can you give example of me being rude and hostile or whatever?
then maybe i can figure out how to chat without offending you
thnx

You can even specify exactly how much spacing you want. For example, if you want exactly 30 mm of white space,
\hspace{30mm}
Thus:
but text isnt indented
is there a way to indent?
\quad doesnt work
\text{ } doesnt work

What is the best way to solve tricky or lengthy word problems?
Take your time, and be clear on your reasoning. Otherwise, it's just a matter of practice, practice, practice.
Practice without understanding leads to zero learning.
i think thats what she probly meant by 'be clear on your reasoning'
if you are 'clear' on the what/why then you can maybe better come up with the how
Use technology to obtain a decimal approximation. That is, use your calculator or an online resource such as Wolfram Alpha:

Why does a square • square root = radicand?
For example: sqrt{ x } • sqrt{ x } = x
what else could it be?
(i'm not being flip)
(im asking what math could make it be anything else?)
its just like 1 - 1 + 1 = 1 or 2*3/3 = 2
subtracting undoes adding
dividing undoes multiplying
squaring undoes square-rooting

So, 1,500 units at $9 each = $13,500.
Also, 750 units at $6 each = $4,500.
This together = $18,000.Also 2250 units at $7 each = $15, 750.

Please, read what I said to Bob. This is not my own created problem. Understand? I found it online.
look at timestamps
she was probably writing response at same time so bobs wasn't visible to her yet
alos dont see how anyone coudl have know source of prob?
sry
where online?
url?
Interesting. Because the first half dozen or so Google results I got said that factors can be negative.
It does seem right that they would count as factors. We're told that a factor is a number that when multiplied by certain other numbers gives us a particular product (2, when multiplied by 9, gives us the product 18). -2 and -9 seem to fit this criteria.
But I trust your good self, and this site generally, so I'm now doubting those Google results, and my own intution.
Who, or what body, is the ulitmate arbiter of these things? Is there an ultimate arbiter of these things?
i think the need for 'unique prime factorization' means factors should all have the same sign
otherwise lots of math gets messed up?
A jumbo chocolate bar with rectangular shape measures 12 cm in length, 7 cm in width, and 3 cm in thickness. Due to escalating costs of cocoa, management decides to reduce the volume of the bar by 10%. To accomplish this reduction, management decides that the new bar should have the same 3 cm thickness, but the length and width of each should be reduced an equal number of centimeters. What should be the dimensions of the new candy bar?
old length: 12
old width: 7
old thickness: 3
old volume: ___new length: 12 - x
new width: 7 - x
new thickness: 3 (same as old thickness)(sry abt typo before)
new volume: ___new volume is 90% of old volume
Old volume = 7•12•3 or 252 cm^3
New volume is 2(12 - x)(7 - 2)
this assumes that x=2
how did you get this?
when you checked your ans did it work out right?
A. Where did 12 come from?
B. Where did 7 come from?
A jumbo chocolate bar with rectangular shape measures 12 cm in length, 7 cm in width,, and 3 cm in thickness.
C. What must I do with 90%?
new volume is 90% of old volume
what is 90% of old volume?

open google play store
select 'search'
enter 'carbon browser'
select and install
This is too confusing.
which part? you installed carbon browser and then??
I am not a technical person. What is a carbon browser?
sry i dont know how to help on an iphone
(if youd been on an android phone then youd know what google play store is and how to search for stuff in it)
(my bad- i'd just assumed)
