Apply Descartes' Rule of Signs to determine the possible numbers of positive roots of:

x^4 - x^3 - 3x^2 - x + 2 = 0
but not sure what i did is right....correct me if i did it wrong
f(x) = +x^4 - x^3 - 3x^2 - x + 2
f(-x) = -x^4 - (-x)^3 - 3(-x)^2 - (-x) + 2
= -x^4 + x^3 + 3x^2 + x + 2

66 - 2 = 64
sqrt64 = 8

then  ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh myyyyyy god
lol u know hwt i did
i did teh same thing that you all did but at teh end i said sqr8 - sqrt9 lol
ohhhhh my god
thanks guys smile

Consider the equation, 4x^2 + 9y^2 - 64 + 72y + 364 = 0. Tell what conic section this represents and sketch its graph.

This is what I did:

(4x^2 - 64x. . ..) + (9y^2 + 72. . . .) = -364
4(x^2 - 16x. . ..) + 9(y^2 + 8y. . . .) = -364
4(x^2 - 16x + 1) + 9(y^2 + 8y + 8 ) = -364 + __
4(x^2 - 16x + 1) + 9(y^2 + 8y + 8 ) = -364 + 4(1) + 9(8)
4(x^2 - 16x + 1) + 9(y^2 + 8y + 8 ) = -364 + 4 + 72
4(x - 1)^2 + 9(y + 0.9)^2 = -288

[4(x - 1)^2] / -288 + [9(y + 0.9)^2] / -288 = -288 / -288

or

(x - 1)^2 / (sqrt(-72))^2 + (y + 0.9)^2 / ((sqrt(-32)) = 1

Is this correct?

Develop the identity for sin 2A using the identity sin(A + B)

http://www.mathwords.com/t/trig_identities.htm

use this formula
sin 2x = 2sinx cos x

or use this formula
sin(x+y) = sin x cos y + cos x + sin y

#25 Re: Help Me ! » Triangle » 2006-12-05 06:04:14

ok this is what i did:

c^2 = a^2 + b^2 - 2ab cos P
A^ = 11^2 + 15^2 - 2(11)(15)cos 65dg
A^2 = 121 + 225 - 139.4640264
A^2 = 346 - 139.4640264
A^2 = 206.5359736
A = 14.37135949
A = 14.4

NEXT

14.4/sin65 = 15/sinB
sinB = 15sin65/14.4
SinB = 0.945952038

NEXT

14.4/sin65 = 11/sinC
sinC = 11sin65/14.4
sinC = 0.012106812

CORRECT
